WHY SHOULD STUDENTS PARTICIPATE?
Research shows that students need employment opportunities to prepare as they seek career opportunities.
The six-week Summer Youth Employment Internship Program responds to the need for more summer employment opportunities for young adults, ages 19 to 25 years old, in our local community. Students must be 18.5 by December 1, 2024, and enrolled in college.

WHY SHOULD EMPLOYERS PARTICIPATE?
This program responds to the ongoing community needs for workforce development initiatives and summer employment opportunities for young adults, ages 19 to 25 years old. We invite Mobile County, Alabama employers to participate in this workforce development initiative.
Our only requirements are that you provide impactful office work for the intern assigned to your site and that you serve as a mentor to the intern. All of the selected interns must be currently enrolled in school and they must meet the rigorous requirements of the program in addition to passing both a criminal background and 10-panel drug screenings.

HOW LONG DOES THE PROGRAM LAST?
The program lasts for six weeks, which includes intensive classroom training and on-the-job performance.
HOW MUCH ARE INTERNS PAID?
The interns will be paid through the Summer Youth Employment Internship Program and will work a 40-hour week with a pay rate of $11.00 - $17.00 per hour.
WHEN DOES THE PROGRAM OCCUR?
The program typically runs during the summer months of June and July. The interns will engage in job readiness training at the University of South Alabama. The training modules include customer service, telephone etiquette, business etiquette, business writing, Microsoft Office, conflict management, time management and business math.
